ARTIFICIAL PANCREAS

 ARTIFICIAL PANCREAS FOR DIABETES

PANCREAS

The pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen, it plays an essential role in converting the food we eat into fuel for the body's cells. The pancreas has two main functions: an exocrine function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function that regulates blood sugar.Insulin helps cells in the body take up glucose from the blood to use for energy, which lowers blood glucose levels. Glucagon causes the liver to release stored glucose, which raises blood glucose levels.

FUNCTION OF PANCREAS
A healthy pancreas produces the correct chemicals in the proper quantities, at the right times,to digest the foods we eat.

DISORDERS OF PANCREAS:
      ₁ Acute pancreatitis
         2 Chronic pancreatitis
         3 Hereditary pancreatitis
         4 Pancreatic cancer

TYPE 1 DIABETES: The pancreas is below and behind the stomach. Insulin is needed to move blood sugar into cells. Inside the cells, glucose is stored and later used for energy. With type 1 diabetes, beta cells produce little or no insulin.

TYPE 2 DIABETES: The pancreas that causes the level of sugar in the blood to become too high.It can also increase risk of getting serious problems with our eyes, heart and never. Its caused by problems with a chemical in the body called insulin.

ARTIFICIAL PANCREAS: DEVICE SYSTEM

This device closely duplicates the glucose regulating function of a healthy pancreas. Three types of device already familiar to the people (CGM) continuous glucose monitoring system and an insulin infusion pump.A blood glucose device is used to calibrate the CGM.
A computer controlled algorithm connects the CGM and insulin infusion pump to allow continuous communication between the two devices. Sometimes an artificial pancreas device system is referred to as a closed loop system. It automatically adjusts the delivery of insulin to reduce high blood glucose levels it called hyperglycemia

                                         → CONTINUOUS GLUCOSE MONITOR (CGM)
                                         → COMPUTER CONTROLLED ALGORITHM
                                         → INSULIN PUMP
                                         → PATIENT EFFECT
